Painterly trends emanating from Barbizon and Giverny emphasized the subtle textures of nature through warm color and broken brush stroke. Many painters in the South took up the stylistics of Tonalism, Impressionism, and naturalism to create works of a very evocative nature, works which celebrated the Southern scene as an exotic other, a locale offering refuge from an increasingly mechanized urban environment.＜/p＞ ＜p＞Scenic Impressions offers an insight into a particular period of American art history as borne out in seminal paintings from the holdings of the Johnson Collection of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Auf dem Burgberg ?ber der Harzstadt erhebt sich ein beeindruckender Komplex. Dieser erstreckt sich ?ber einen langen Sandsteinfelsen, der an seinen R?ndern schroff abf?llt. Der markante Schlossberg erhebt sich etwa 30 Meter ?ber die D?cher der Stadt Quedlinburg. Auf diesem steil abfallenden Sandsteinfelsen befinden sich die Stiftskirche St. Servatii sowie das dreifl?gelige Renaissance-Schlo?. Das Schloss entstand im 15. - 16. Jahrhundert aus der mittelalterlichen Burg. In ihm befindet sich heute u.a. ein Museum. Besondere Ausstellungsst?cke des Schlossmuseums sind z.B. der legend?re Raubgrafenkasten sowie fr?hgeschichtliche Funde wie die Goldscheibenfibel. Die heutige Stiftskirche St. Servatii wurde Anfang des 12. Jahrhunderts auf den Resten von drei Vorg?ngerbauten errichtet. An dieser Stelle standen vor ihr die Kapelle der K?nigspfalz von Heinrich I., die erste Kirche des Damenstifts sowie eine im Jahre 1021 eingeweihte Basilika. Die Quedlinburger Stiftskirche mit ihrem kreuzf?rmigen Grundriss geh?rt zu den bedeutendsten romanischen Kirchenbauten in Deutschland. Ihr Hauptportal ist eines der ?ltesten deutschen S?ulenportale. Unter dem Chor befindet sich die Krypta und in dieser die Gr?ber des ersten deutschen K?nigspaares - Heinrich I. und Ehefrau Mathilde. Es war der ausdr?ckliche Wunsch Heinrich I., in Quedlinburg bestattet zu werden.
