Das Alter und die damit einhergehenden Makel und Gebrechen scheinen f?r den K?nstler besonders interessant gewesen zu sein. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit soll nicht sein, einen ?berblick ?ber die zahlreichen Selbstportr?ts in Rembrandts vollst?ndigem ?uvre zu vermitteln. Nach einer knappen Vorstellung der au?ergew?hnlichen ersten Selbstbildnisse als Vergleichsm?glichkeit soll anschlie?end vielmehr der Fokus auf das Sp?twerk gelegt werden, da diese Schaffensphase nachhaltig als tiefgreifend und bemerkenswert gilt. Die Selbstbildnisse sollen au?erdem kurz in das Lebenswerk eingeordnet und ihre besondere Be-deutung erl?utert werden. Vorweg soll das Leben des K?nstlers paraphrasiert werden, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf den Verlusten des Privatlebens gelegt wird. Hier ist herauszustellen, ob er seine intimen, vielleicht verzweifelten und einsamen Gedanken m?glicherweise unterbewusst im Werk auslebt, oder sich mit voller Absicht skizzenhaft und mit deutlichen Alterserscheinungen darstellt. Die Literaturlage zum Thema ist ausgepr?gt und vielseitig. Das umfassende Leben und Schaffen Rembrandts wird in unz?hligen Abhandlungen herausgestellt.
